Former Home And Away star to remain behind bars on remand after string of alleged offences

After being accused of committing violent crimes around Sydney’s inner suburbs, a former soap star will remain behind bars.

When his case was heard in Sydney’s Central Local Court on Wednesday, lawyers for Home And Away actor Felix Dean did not petition for bail.

Mr Dean, who is being held on remand, has yet to enter a plea to charges stemming from a number of crimes, including reportedly robbing a tobacco store with a hammer.

Elliott Rowe, Mr Dean’s lawyer, said he would not petition for bail on his client’s behalf since he was still waiting on papers to transfer Mr Dean to a potential rehabilitation clinic if he was released.

“Bail was not requested, therefore bail was denied,” said magistrate Daniel Reiss.

Mr Dean, who starred as “VJ” on the Channel 7 show from 2007 to 2014, was arrested in October of last year after allegedly attacking a cigarette shop owner in Surry Hills.

Mr Dean was previously charged with various violent crimes stemming from alleged incidents in the Sydney neighbourhoods of Newtown, Paddington, and Surry Hills, according to the court.

Mr Dean is accused of assaulting a police officer in Paddington in September last year and failing to follow Covid-19 instructions, according to police. To those accusations, he has yet to enter a plea.

Mr Dean was also accused with smashing a man’s house glass in Newtown on January 6 last year and attacking another man who was attempting to rob him on the same night, all of which he had previously indicated guilty pleas to.

Other accusations, such as destroying or damaging property and assault with the purpose to rob, have since been dropped, but two offences, including destroying or damage property and assault with the intent to rob, have remained.

Mr Dean was then charged with breaking into the TSG Tobacconist on Elizabeth Street in Surry Hills around 11 p.m. on October 18 last year, equipped with a 30cm hammer.

He allegedly assaulted a male employee, who sustained minor head injuries as a result of his actions.

During the same time period, Dean was also charged with common assault in relation to another man.

He was charged with affray, assault causing actual bodily harm, two counts of common assault, shoplifting, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, and breach of bail in connection with that event.

To those accusations, he has yet to enter a plea.

When the case was addressed in Central Local Court on Wednesday, the 24-year-old did not show up.

On January 25, he will be sentenced at Central Local Court.

Ada Nicodemou’s TV kid, “VJ,” was a regular on Home And Away.
