Home and Away Dimitri star’s life – music fame, career U-turn and Heartbreak High stint

A familiar figure will return to Summer Bay this year, as Salvatore Coco reprises his role as Dimitri Poulos on Home and Away.

Fans are wondering how the celebrity will be reintroduced into the programme, as the actor indicated on Instagram that filming has been “amazing.”

The star has returned to the renowned Australian soap after a 17-year absence, dazzling the public with his musical talents.

He’s also appeared in a number of unexpected TV and film roles.

Let’s take a look into the lives of Dimitri Poulos, from his popular gorgeous pupil Con Bordino to his thriving music career and dramatic soap return.

Fame in music

Salvatore began his training in acting, singing, dancing, and musical theatre at the age of nine, and has since become one of Australia’s most renowned performers.

Sal turned his musical abilities into a career by starring in a number of spectacular theatrical productions, including finalists in the Short & Sweet Theatre Festival, The Pond and The Rules of April.

He also hosts and performs at business events, festivals, weddings, and award ceremonies all around Australia. Sal uses social media to keep followers up to date on his music career, providing footage from events while on stage.

“I really love having fun; it’s what keeps me coming back weekend after weekend to do what I love,” he told his adoring audience.

Salvatore’s notoriety has made him a sought-after MC and Entertainer in Australia. While taking up acting roles, the multi-talented star continues to play musically.

Heartbreak High role

Sal was most recognised for his portrayal as popular student Costa “Con” Bordino in the 1990s adolescent drama Heartbreak High.

In between his economic endeavours, his character had a fling with his friend’s mother and engaged in a succession of questionable relationships.

His character left the soap to participate in a student exchange programme, but later returned to disclose that he had dropped out of school to pursue a career in real estate.

Coco was cast as Joseph Cardillo in the final series of Police Rescue after two years in that role. He appeared in a number of television shows, including Country Practice, Water Rats, and Wildside.

Since Heartbreak High, his most noteworthy acting role was as Dimitri Poulos in the Australian soap series Home and Away.

His feature film credits include Walk the Talk, Looking for Alibrandi, Bootmen, and Two Hands, among others.

Changing careers

While many fans recognise him from his appearances in Heartbreak High and Home and Away, the gifted actor took a career shift in recent years when he began singing at weddings.

The celebrity has MC’d and performed at hundreds of weddings, and he frequently shares private video of delighted couples on Instagram. He wrote on Instagram, “Moments like these are priceless, and I am lucky to be experiencing them with you both.”

“His superb voice, powerful stage presence, charisma, and humour keeps audiences wanting more of his original approach,” Sal boasts on his website.

The star frequently extols his passion of singing while also pursuing acting roles.

He enthused, “I just adore my job; it’s so gratifying and it fills me with so much delight every time #ilovemyjob #livingthedream.”
