Rose, a new character who will become a permanent resident of Summer Bay in 2022, has been confirmed for Home and Away.
Kirsty Marillier, a South African actor and award-winning writer residing in Sydney and Melbourne, will play Rose. Her prior performing credits include a role in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Melbourne.
Kirsty revealed the casting on Instagram immediately after it was confirmed, writing:
Ah! I can now reveal this juicy piece of information I’ve been keeping hidden for the past two months… delighted to say I’ve been invited as a series reg on @channel7s Home & Away. Woah.
It’s a little surreal to be a part of this amazing icon-of-a-show. It’s been a fantastic 6 weeks of shooting as I get to know the bay as Rose, the new resident brown girl.
Thank you, @dailytelegraph, for this pg 3 spread, and thank you, mum, for keeping this a secret.
“It is very life changing, I am not going to lie,” Kirsty told The Daily Telegraph about her new work. It’s like getting that huge break you’ve been hoping for as a student and young actor.”
She already has huge aspirations beyond Summer Bay, and she wants to follow in the footsteps of many of the cast members of Home and Away and relocate to Hollywood.
“Getting to film this much footage, the quantity I’ve already done,” she told the outlet, “is an experience that will prepare me for Hollywood, prepared for America, and simply a very good professional actress, which is what I’ve always wanted to be.”
Kirsty would join the likes of Chris Hemsworth, the late Heath Ledger, Isla Fisher, Melissa George, and Ryan Kwanten who have all gone on to have great careers as a result of their time on Home and Away if she decides to travel to Hollywood following her stint on the programme.
“I am extremely honoured to be welcomed as a series regular on Home and Away,” Kirsty stated when she first joined the group.
“I recall fantasising of a bright utopia while watching this icon-of-a-show in high school — it’s weird to have this become my reality.”
“I hope UK audiences like Rose as much as I do, and that in 2022, they get to know her intimately as she uncovers mysteries and loves the bay.”
The announcement comes only weeks after Luke Van Os, a cousin of Home and Away alumnus and Hollywood celebrity Chris Hemsworth, was cast in the role of Xander on the serial.
He is linked to a Summer Bay favourite and has been described as “a strange guy who arrives in the Bay hunting for answers.”
Kirsty has been seen filming with Sam Frost (Jasmine), Nicholas Cartwright (Cash), and Luke Van Os in paparazzi images shot over the previous several weeks in Sydney’s Palm Beach — the real-life filming site for Summer Bay (Xander).
Fans have speculated that Xander may be a long-lost relative of either Jasmine or the Newman siblings, given that Jasmine, Cash, and Felicity (Jacqui Purvis) all went through the foster care system as children.
It’s unclear if the new persona Rose will be connected in any manner.
In 2022, Kirsty will make her Home and Away debut as Rose.
