Sarah Roberts was beginning a life with not only her Home and Away co-star James Stewart, but also his daughter, Scout, when she fell in love with him.
Sarah became a stepmother nearly immediately after marrying in 2019.
Sarah may not be Scout’s biological mother (that honour belongs to James’ ex Jessica Marais), but their unbreakable friendship has shown that love isn’t confined to blood kin over the years.
Since falling in love, she and her husband James Stewart have made Scout the centre of their lives, but Sarah’s attachment with the nine-year-old has become even stronger in the last two years.
“I realised Scout became like my little best friend and my little shadow during lockdown – because I was in the trenches home-schooling, cooking, and cleaning,” Sarah told the Australian Women’s Weekly in 2021.
“We now chat about everything, and it’s a wonderful friendship that I treasure since we created it from the ground up.”

To commemorate the Melbourne Cup, Sarah and Scout dressed up for a backyard picnic. “You can take Melbourne out of the girl, but you can’t take the girl out of Melbourne! With my tiny filly, I wish you a happy Melbourne Cup.” This nice November 2021 post was captioned by Sarah.
The COVID-19 lockdown was the spark for Sarah and Scout’s friendship to grow even deeper. “As a result, I was able to spend a lot of quality time with Jimmy and Scout, which was beneficial to our family as a whole. We had a lot of fun growing up together “Sarah shared her story on the podcast How To…Life.
In this November 2021 photo, Sarah and Scout may be mistaken for biological mother and daughter! “Today’s makeup artist raided her suitcase and photobombed it. I pay her in Oreos (I know, it’s a pretty good deal…), so I think I’ll let it slide!” This post was captioned by Sarah.
Scout, Sarah’s nine-year-old son, was Sarah’s top priority from the start of her relationship with James. In 2021, she stated, “We didn’t want Scout to have some lady zooming in and out of her life.” “I wanted to be a steady adult in her life, and we didn’t want to bring it up or make it public unless we were sure Scout would be secure. That was always our first priority, and work came in second.”
It’s trick or treat time! In 2021, Sarah and Scout dressed up in their best costumes for Halloween.
Sarah has joked in the past that James is envious of the girls’ club she and Scout have co-founded. She told the Australian Women’s Weekly, “We gang up on him occasionally, it’s pretty entertaining.”
Sarah has previously confessed that when she imagined her future, becoming a stepmother did not immediately come to her. “My current situation is not at all what I anticipated. Never in a million years did I imagine myself as a stepmother. Stepmothers, in my opinion, receive a poor rap “she stated
Families in good spirits! Sarah and James spend a lot of time with Scout’s mother, Jessica Marais from Packed to the Rafters.
“Scout and I consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have one other in our lives. She’s teaching me a lot, and I’m sure I’m teaching her a lot as well “In the year 2020, Sarah gushed. “I know one day our time will come when we will be able to give her a brother or sister.”
Sarah, 37, is open to being a mother one day, despite the fact that she has no biological children. “I know one day our time will come,” she stated in 2020, “and we will be able to give [Scout] a brother or sister.”
“Cinderella’s stepmother is a jerk! That’s something I’d like to rebrand. It’s difficult at times, but it’s also extremely rewarding.”
