Delta Goodrem, who is 36 years old, has already cemented her place as an Australian legend, and we’ve shared many of her highs and lows over the course of her two-decade career.
The blonde beauty made her first appearances on television in commercials for Nesquick and Optus. She had her first serious part on A Country Practice in 1993, and she followed it up with a role as a bright schoolgirl on Hey Dad…! in 1994.
Delta has had a successful acting career, but her true passion is music, and in order to break into the competitive profession, she submitted a five-song demo CD to music producer Glenn Wheatley in 1999.
Glenn was so taken with her work that he offered her an artist development contract with Empire Records.
I Don’t Care, her debut song, was released the next year. It wasn’t a smash, but Delta found success in 2002 when she earned a role on Neighbours as Nina Tucker.
“I’m pleased to state that I was a member of the Neighbours group, regardless of what century we’re all in – there’s a secret society!” On the soap’s 30th birthday reunion special, she cracked a joke.
Delta was a certified superstar by 2003, when she released her debut album, Innocent Eyes, which went on to become Australia’s best-selling album of the decade, and she even won an Aria for her smash hit Born To Try.
Unfortunately, her major success was followed by a diagnosis of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Delta came out to OK Magazine about her battle with cancer once she was in remission.
“It’s strange to see photos from that period. When I was terribly unwell, no one saw me “she said
“When I was diagnosed, I was 18 years old and had a number one album and song in the United States. I was also number two in the United Kingdom. It had been such a polarising year.”
Delta has appeared as a coach on The Voice Australia in recent years, as well as portraying her hero Olivia Newton-John in the film Hopelessly Devoted To You.
During the epidemic, when many musicians were unable to play in concerts, she co-founded the Bunkerdown Sessions with lover Matthew Copley, which helped to lift the spirits of numerous Australians who were stranded.
Let’s take a look back at Delta’s career, which began in 1993, with this extensive photo collection of her life.
